Auto Industry Bail Out - Obama should buy millions of green/electric cars!

Comment RSSPresident Obama should bail out the auto-industry by purchasing millions of electric cars instead of just pouring money into the auto companies without making any changes to their fundamental mode of operation. If we buy green cars, it will force the auto companies to change. it will fundamentally change the economics of the US. electric recharge stations will have to be built, etc. more jobs for everyone. a stimulated economy!

If only it will be
Thu, 07/09/2009 - 09:54 — SuddenSIf only it will be implemented... It was such a nice idea! We are not new to the idea that we should solve the environmental problem that we are facing. Global Warming is the first in the list. Global Warming is the warming of the Earth's atmosphere due to high concentration of the greenhouse gases like carbon monoxide (which is emitted from fossil fuel burning). Because of this, many are affected. Many diseases are widespread. Some are getting installment loans for the hospitalization expenses. That’s why, we should lessen the greenhouse gases that we emit in order to reduce warming.

Why do so many people think
Fri, 03/06/2009 - 02:13 — AnonymousWhy do so many people think that what is making the auto companies economically nonviable is that they just aren't selling green cars? Or that if they simply manufactured more green cars they would suddenly start seeing profits and their companies would then become solvent again? Neither Honda or Toyota sell vast amounts of green cars. In fact their top selling models aren't green cars and those non-green cars are no more carbon neutral or energy efficient than there American counterparts and yet Honda and Toyota are solvent.
My point is buying green cars isn't going to solve their problems. There problems run much deeper than the products they produce. So, simply saying that Obama should buy green cars with bail out money is absurd. Here is what that comment implies: Read: The US taxpayer should let the US Government use our money to buy green cars thereby laying more debt at our feet that has to come out the economy at some point in the future and AND we would then have to buy those vehicles that were purchased with our money (or future generations' money, i.e. taxes) in a time when people don't even have money to pay their mortgages, people can't get loans and people are losing their jobs. Spending more on things we don't need, green or otherwise, is unwise.
