Electric hand dryers vs paper towels

My colleague suggested that we could have electric hand dryers instead of paper towel in the cafeteria. We have significant employee strength and the usage of paper-towels are pretty high.

I thought above her suggestion & seems a good one. Today, did a random search on Google to see what is the general public opinion / SME (subject matter experts ;)

Following some of the places where people are debating & discussing on the same.

Most of the stats reveal that people use/prefer paper towels bocz of time constraint. Same hold goods with me as well. Probably, next if I have the choice, I would choose the dryers instead.

Whats yours take?

Cheers!

They probably are greener;

They probably are greener; but I don't think people will go for it. I would settle for mandatory recycling of paper towels. There's no need for them to go into a landfill when all they are is organic material.

Sometimes I just wipe my

Sometimes I just wipe my hands on my pants or jacket, but that's because there's frequently no paper towels in the dispenser. The hand dryer where I go doesn't work. I went to an aquarium one time and they had the high speed dryers and those were great- you put your hands into this dryer that had two sides and blew air from both sides so it was faster, and it stopped when you pulled your hands away (as opposed to being on a timer).

Using paper towels to dry

Using paper towels to dry your hands is far more hygienic than using electric hand dryers which actually increase the amount of bacteria on hands and can spread cross contamination in public washrooms, according to an independent scientific study. The study, conducted by scientists at the University of Westminster, London, measured the number of bacteria on subjects’ hands before washing and after drying them using three different methods —paper towels, a traditional warm air dyer and a new high-speed jet air dryer. They’re short term loans and they’re sanitary—and the newer models, at least, are fast. Old hand dryers required as much as 45 seconds to dry your hands (a hard sell compared to paper towels that wipe away water in a few seconds). But newer, hyperefficient dryers blast your hands dry in as little as 8 to 10 seconds. As for keeping your hands germ-free, a 2000 study from the Mayo Clinic found no difference between air dryers and paper towels at removing bacteria from wet hands.

Excellant resource, I still

Excellant resource, I still prefer hand dryers myself, as they are more economical, you can simply fit and foget about a hand dryer whereas paper towels need to be relaced on a regular basis
