Comment RSSJust think if we stop carrying books, and use digitialized study materials, this would save tonnes of trees.
This should be implemented at every level of the education tree, and hence will reduce the amount of old un-used books... This will also reduce the cost spent on education....

This could save tons.... Tons
Wed, 05/27/2009 - 00:39 — AnonymousThis could save tons....
Tons of dollars spent on college books that are currently updated on a yearly basis (so students have to repurchase)
Tons of trees used for paper on those books
Tons of water used in the paper making process
Tons of landfill materials, where old, obsolete books usually end up!
We should start doing this today!

Sat, 04/25/2009 - 04:15 — AnonymousI'm a college student, and this semester I tried out ebooks instead of textbooks. For each of my classes, I compared the cost of a used book from half.com versus the cheapest ebook I could find. Two book were cheaper purchasing used, two I couldn't find ebook versions of, and the other three were not that much cheaper as ebooks. It doesn't seem like it would save that much money unless e-textbooks get a lot cheaper.
On the other hand, who wants to waste paper on a tax book that's already obsolete by the time the class is over?

Thu, 04/23/2009 - 17:47 — AnonymousVirtual education has been around a while. I completed an advanced degree via this method 5 years ago. My son (3rd) attend a virtual charter school. The technology is far more advanced that you can appreciate without using it first hand. This is also true of the quality of education.

Thu, 04/09/2009 - 20:46 — AnonymousIf you have ever tried to enter in physics equations in to a computer you would know how bad of an idea this would be for higher level classes. And for elementary school, kids need to learn how to write.
This will be expensive.
