GreenSchool.org - Students learn the latest in green living while living in paradise - Bali
Green School located in Bali - Indonesia; opened in September 2008 for students ranging from AGE - 1 to 8 years.
The purpose of Green School to educate and create awareness among students about our enviroment and our impact on it. It uses sustainable and innovative approach for construction, generating electricity, recycling compost etc.
Some of the features are:
The school's buildings are cooled and powered with renewable energy sources like micro-hydro power, solar power, and bio-gas. Bamboo, and traditional mud walls form the structure of the buildings.
It uses saw-dust water heating system, volcanic rock roads and stone paths [no petroleum products], solar powered electric fence, living fences made of living shrubs and small trees, aquaculure program and recycled car windshield for windows.
The school was built on 20 acres of land and uses an organic permaculture system, designed to work in perfect cohesion with the natural ecology of the land. A thriving organic garden to be cultivated by the school's own students will grow fruits and vegetables, herbs, and other crops.

I love the smell of that stuff!
But honestly, besides the saw-dust that school seems like the biggest waste of time and money...absolutely worthless

While you're there, talk to the 100+ kids enrolled in the school, and the hundreds of passionate people involved in the project, and then decide again if it's the biggest waste of time and money and absolutely worthless.

It looks like they are attempting some pretty amazing things. I'm sure it's not a perfect school, but they are doing a lot more than most to educate kids about sustainability. The planet needs more projects like this-- to call it "absolutely worthless" seems mean-spirited and counterproductive.
