Saving Water Indoors

Water conservation is very essential because we use up our planet’s fresh water faster than it can be replenished naturally. Using water wisely will not only help the environment, but also save energy and your money. Water conservation can be started by checking the water usage at home.

You can save water and prevent water wastage in the following ways:

  • Do not throw away water when you can re-use it for cleaning purposes, or watering plants.
  • Check if there are any water leaks at home. Repair dripping taps, toilet tanks, and pipe lines. If water leaks from a tap at one drop per second, you would be wasting approximately 10220 liters of water per year!
  • Avoid flushing the toilet unnecessarily. Dispose of tissues, insects and other such waste in the trash rather than the toilet.
  • Take shorter showers. Replace you showerhead with an ultra-low-flow version.
  • Do not let water run while shaving or washing your face.
  • Retrofit all leaking taps by installing aerators with flow restrictors.
  • Operate automatic dishwashers and clothes washers only when they are fully loaded. Otherwise, set the water level for the size of load you are using.
  • Insulate your water pipes to get hot water faster, which will avoid wasting water while it heats up.
  • If you have a well at your home, listen to check if the water pump turns on and off while the water is not in use. If it does, there is a leak.
  • Replace or adjust the toilet flush handle if it frequently lies in the flush position, letting water run constantly.

Another way to save A LOT of

Another way to save A LOT of water, and energy!

If you do not use a dishwasher, use one sink for washing and rinsing.
The key is to not rinse washed dishes over another sink! This wastes water.

Instead, wash the dishes with the water used to rinse the dishes! Of course, you will have to add a little water to the sink, when you begin. Use the water you started off with to wash, and then, by not filling the sink with dishes, you will have enough room to effectively rinse the dish in the same sink.

This could save up to a full sink of hot water each time the dishes are done. Multiply that by how many times a year the dishes are done, and you will see it is a lot of water and energy.
Check out more here.

These are great tips and

These are great tips and alltogether save a great amount of water. I could add one more easy tip; this suits for the areas where you can drink tap water. I like drinking my water really cold and I fill couple of bottles of water and store it in the fridge and instead of waiting water to run cold from the tap.

Very good idea. Simple and

Very good idea. Simple and anyone can start thinking and acting in a more responsible manner today. Starting with the simple stuff is always recommended. Installing Solar, wind and other tech is sometimes what people think of first when they think of helping the Planet, but consuming less and preventing the waste of resources is a much better place to start.
