More on standby power. It was

More on standby power.

It was estimated [1] that the average American household spends USD110 a year just on the standby power consumed by appliances. This adds up to USD11 billion a year, and 108 billion kilowatt-hours -- 8% of the annual electricity consumption by all US households combined.

Unplugging appliances when not in use is one way to improve. Another is to use power strips or wall sockets which have on/off switches and use that (might be a bit more convenient than unplugging). Yet another, more advanced way, is to use devices like the Bye-Bye Standby [2]. This allows you to turn on/off multiple sockets at once using a RF remote. You can keep the remote at your bed-side or stick it next to your main door. It is relatively inexpensive (USD25 for set of 2 units) and I can attest to its ease of use.

Completely agree with Ajay.

Completely agree with Ajay. We should try to stop all the appliances like Lights, Fans, Air Con when unused.
