Waste Management - Plastic Bottles

Comment RSSI was reading a blog on why plastic bottles should be done away with in the third world. It gave me a thought. What if bottled water companies had refilling stations everywhere rather than selling bottles. An example - a refilling station could be at a supermarket or gas station. This way a consumer would be able to use just one bottle, clean it and reuse. That could solve the plastic problem. The distribution of the water would still add to the carbon footprint of the bottled water companies, but at least the footprint contributed by using plastic would be reduced.
